Mihaly Slocombe Architects revamp ground floor of 1930’s Art Deco home
Australian couple asked Mihaly Slocombe Architects to enhance the functionality their home and to make it an amazing place to live.
“Our clients came to us with a challenge: to increase the quality of light in their living areas while protecting them from the harsh summer sun. They also wanted to better integrate the living areas with the back garden. As passionate gardeners, they wanted to spend more of their time living outdoors, surrounded by nature. We have met this challenge by introducing a quirky zig-zag roof connecting the house to a detached gym and the garden. This creates a nestled decked area in between the buildings, complete with fire pit and day bed. Inside, the rooms have been reorganised to better suit the lifestyles of our clients and their four adult daughters. A coat of white paint and a beautiful suite of new storage units brighten up the house and provide plenty of room for their impressive book and pottery collections. The ground floor is now flexible and provides plenty of space to cook, eat entertain, work and relax,” explain Mihaly Slocombe Architects
