Sivak + Partners create apartment inspired by color and mood of Black Sea
Sivak + Partners were hired to design an interior of a small apartment located at the sea in Odessa, Ukraine.
“At the start, when only concrete walls are around, the man’s gaze attracted the view of the sea from the windows. The sea is changing, fog, sunrise, storm – the state was reflected in the interior color and mood. The view from the window prompted the senselessness to shout over the elements by the interior. Therefore, the design was made calm. Modern design is about minimalism, which leads a person’s attention from things to his real life in the era of virtuality overload. The apartment has a plan that all designers hate – some walls are semicircular, others are not at right angles. This gave rise to hidden niches and cabinets. For example, the gray square behind the sofa is not only an art object, but also a built-in wardrobe for rarely used things. One of the cabinets is behind the mirror at the entrance; only a frosted circle prompts its existence. All materials had to be such that it was pleasant to touch them. One example is the kitchen material FENIX NTM. It is not only pleasant to the touch, but also well combined with concrete walls. The budget of the entire construction was relatively small, about $ 700 per square meter, so we decided to do everything under the order in the local market. The lack of use of well-known brands of furniture on the one hand allowed to save, on the other to create the interior of authorship of one hand,” says Dmitriy Sivak, Lead architect and interior designer
